As Mike Tyson prepares to enter the ring against YouTuber and influencer Jake Paul on Nov. 15, the 58-year old boxing legend has made some eerie comments that foreshadow a dire outcome for the youngest heavyweight boxing champion in history.
Netflix has released the trailer for “Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson,” a three-part series which will debut on the streaming network on Nov. 7, and will document the lead-up to the fight fans have craved since first announced in March.
However, Tyson was forced to pull out of the bout in May after suffering an ulcer flare up as the result of a poor diet.
The fight was originally scheduled for July 20, 2024, which the ulcer made impossible.
Luckily for fight fans (and Paul haters), it was rescheduled. But, the way Tyson is talking, the 1984 Golden Gloves heavyweight champion might not be as fit to fight as he’s let on.
“I don’t want to die in a hospital bed,” Tyson, who refers to death multiple times throughout the clip, said. “I wanna die in the ring.”
Here’s to hoping that was hyperbole, and Tyson is healthy enough to save boxing from the onslaught of Paul, who is 10-1 with 7 knockouts in exhibitions (against mostly over-the-hill, yet respected fighters or athletes), and hits hard.
“He’s a manufactured killer, I’m a natural killer,” Tyson said.
The fight will occur at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and will stream on Netflix live on Nov. 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
